The Team was: Arthur Attrill, Sam Cawood, Thomas Hargreave, Daniel Rutorov, Edward Sanders, Edwin James Vopson, Scott Yates
The other counties were: Cambridgeshire, Kent and Middlesex
Captains: Mike Booth and Paul Scullard
Day 1 v Cambridgeshire
Our first match was against a very strong Cambridgeshire and, unfortunately, we went down by a score of 8-1 with our only win coming from Arthur at number 1 singles, some good performances and a few 3-setters but overall they were too strong for us.
Day 2 v Kent
This was a crucial match against a good Kent side who had beaten Middlesex the previous day. We kept the singles side the same and were 2-4 down after the singles with good wins for Arthur at number 1 and Edwin at 3, so all to play for with the doubles.
Sam and Daniel played at 3 and had a great win to go to 3-4 and Alfie and Thomas had a great match at 2 but eventually lost in the 3rd set tie-break 6-10 to give Kent the win. The last doubles was conceded so it went down as 4-5 loss.
Day 3 v Middlesex
The last match was against Middlesex who managed to draft in an extra player who had been playing abroad for the previous two days. He strengthened their team and we, unfortunately, went 5-0 down very quickly. Arthur won at number 1 but with the tie being lost, the doubles were not played.
Although we were relegated, we had a great weekend, played some great tennis but were beaten by very strong teams.
Next year will be a re-building year as we lose five of this year’s team, we look forward to that and hopefully can get promoted.
