The boys topped Group 2E at Manor Park, Malvern and did themselves proud.
The Team was: Harry Coxon, Riley Cullen, Adam Kaminski, Jacob Lee
Team Captains: Callum Li and David Nobre
Day 1 v Hereford and Worcestershire
The team started strongly, and we were 3-1 up after the singles with Jacob winning the second set tie-break but narrowly lost the match tie-break 6-10. Harry and Adam won at doubles 1 4-0, 4-3(1) and Riley and Jacob lost doubles 2 in another second set tie-break. 4-2 win.
Day 1 v Wiltshire
The second match on day 1 was v Wiltshire and we were 4-0 up after the singles and only dropped five games. We changed the doubles pairings and Harry and Jacob won at 2 in a match tie-break and Riley and Adam at 1 lost 10-7 in their match tie-break so a 5-1 win with everything to play for on the final day.
Day 2 v Gloucestershire and Shropshire
Day 2 began against Gloucestershire, who had also won both of their matches on Day 1. With Hampshire & IOW later taking a comfortable 4–0 lead over Shropshire, the match against Gloucestershire proved to be the decisive contest of the weekend.
Jacob produced a huge singles win, edging a thrilling match tie-break 12–10, while Riley came agonisingly close to securing another point, narrowly losing his own match tie-break. Hampshire & IOW held a 3–1 lead heading into the doubles, but there was still work to do. Riley and Adam rose to the occasion in a high-pressure match, producing a dominant 4–0, 4–0 victory to seal the County Cup title for Hampshire & IOW.
It was an outstanding team performance, with Hampshire & IOW winning 14 of their 16 singles matches and 5 of their 8 doubles matches across the weekend.
A special mention goes to Harry Coxon and Adam Kaminski, who remained unbeaten in singles, winning every match at No. 1 and No. 3 respectively.
Having captained the Hampshire & IOW 10U team last year, Callum was delighted to see the continued development of each player, making the County Cup victory even more rewarding.
