International Day of Disabled People

Date

As you may know, Tuesday, 3 December, marks International Day of Disabled People (IDDP). This is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible achievements within disability tennis over the past year, from recreational participation to elite-level success.

2024 has been a standout year for disability tennis, particularly as a Paralympic year. We’ve seen inspiring performances, innovative initiatives, and an ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities across the sport. As we approach the end of the year, it’s a chance to reflect on these milestones and look ahead with excitement to 2025.

Our focus throughout the year has been to encourage more people to get involved in disability tennis—whether as players, coaches, or supporters. By raising awareness of the sport’s diverse formats, we aim to inspire participation and foster a more inclusive tennis community.

We’re thrilled to share some of the year’s most impactful content, created to showcase the different disability tennis formats. This content highlights the skill, dedication, and passion that make disability tennis so special. We hope it inspires even more people to join in, on and off the court.

Content includes:

* Adam Hills Series – introductions to Wheelchair, Para-Standing, VI tennis & Walking Tennis

* Jack Draper – VI Tennis. A popular video produced earlier in the year which sees the current world No.15 give VI tennis a go

* Katie Boulter – Age UK Walking Tennis

* Wheelchair Tennis Performance Pathway – this will appeal to young people and parents who are looking at their options for getting into sport with aspirations for making it to the elite level.
