Great success at 11U County Cups!

Date

This year’s 11U County Cup event was held over the weekend of Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June.

Girls:

The Girls team was in Play-off Group 1A at East Dorset Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

The Team was:

Liliana Mawo, Elizabeth Nwawudu, Astrid Tilley, Esther Wycherley

Team Captains:  Lottie Howard and Simon James

The girls were in Group B with Avon and Sussex with the first match v Avon.  After the singles we were 2-2 so everything to play for.  We won doubles 1 but just lost doubles 2 8-10 in the third set tie-break.  So match shoot-out time and unfortunately it didn’t go our way so a 3-4 loss.  The next match was v Sussex and again it was 2-2 after the singles, but this time the girls were able to win both doubles so a 4-2 win.  It meant there was a 3-way tie in Group B and with a 7-6 rubber score, we came top!

So playing for a place in the finals on the second day v Hertfordshire (who won Group A), the girls rose to the challenge and produced another impressive team performance.  After the singles we were 3-1 up and after winning doubles 1, the girls had secured their place in the National Finals.

Well done to all and good luck at the Finals being held from Friday 3rd – Sunday 5th July at Nottingham Tennis Centre.  A full report will follow.

Boys:

The Boys team was in Group 2E at Manor Park, Malvern.

The Team was:  Harry Coxon, Riley Cullen, Adam Kaminski, Jacob Lee

Team Captains:  Callum Li and David de Nobre

The other counties were:  Gloucestershire, Hereford & Worcs, Shropshire, Wiltshire

The weekend started well with a 4-2 win v Hereford & Worcs followed by a 5-1 win v Wiltshire on day 1.  The first match on day 2 was v Gloucestershire who had also won both their matches the previous day.  After the singles we were 3-1 up and with a win at doubles 1, the result was 4-2.  The last match was v Shropshire and the boys all won so a 6-0 result.

This meant the boys won Group 2E – well done all.  A full report will follow.
