Hampshire & IOW Tennis Coach Bursary Scheme

Hampshire & IOW Tennis (HIOWT) is committed to growing and diversifying the coaching workforce within the county to help achieve the organisation’s charitable aspiration to open up tennis and thereby to increase tennis participation across Hampshire & IOW. 

The Coach Bursary Scheme is available to any individual meeting the criteria as set out below. Applications will be assessed on individual merit, however, we would particularly welcome applications from: 

  • People from an ethnic background
  • Females
  • People with a disability

Application Process

  • Complete the application form available at: https://forms.office.com/r/zt5SMqKCLQ
  • Applications will be assessed by HIOWT on a regular, ongoing basis
  • Applications must be submitted prior to the date that the course commences
  • Funding should not be assumed until confirmed by HIOWT
  • All sections of the application form must be completed
  • To receive your bursary payment, all eligibility criteria must be met within 3 months of passing the course, otherwise HIOWT reserves the right to withdraw the grant

Eligibility Criteria

  • You are a resident in Hampshire & IOW and / or will be using your qualification at a venue, school or local authority programme in Hampshire & IOW
  • You must be over 16 years of age at the commencement of the course
  • You must become (or maintain status as) an LTA Accredited Coach within 3 months of completing the Qualification
  • You commit to attending at least one HIOWT event during the year after completion of your qualification, e.g. a Coach Network Meeting
  • You commit to being a member of the HIOWT coaching network, e.g. by joining the HIOWT Coach Whatsapp group

Bursary Payments

Limited funds are available to help those individuals wishing to gain their Tennis Coaching Level 1 (Assistant), Level 2 (Instructor) & Level 3 (Coach) qualifications and grants will be awarded within the following bands:

  • £75-£125 towards the cost of achieving Level 1 Assistant Course
  • £100-£220 towards the cost of achieving Level 2 Instructor Course
  • £125-£300 towards the cost of achieving Level 3 Course (subject to  thenumber of applicants)

The bursary payment will be made retrospectively by HIOWT to successful applicants on the completion of their course and their subsequent registration to the LTA’s Coach Accreditation scheme. In a limited number of circumstances, we may consider full or partial payment of the grant in advance.

Please note that whilst the above covers LTA Level 1, 2 and 3 qualifications, there are inclusion grants available for individuals wanting to do an LTA Level 4, 5 and Certificate in Tutoring Qualifications (CTQ) as well as funding for mentoring.
