3 Counties Challenge – 2024
3 Counties Challenge – 2024

Date

For the third year the 3 Counties Challenge event was held with H&IOW competing with Dorset and Sussex for the Cups. The format is timed tennis for singles and doubles.

This year’s events were held on:

Boys – 23rd June at CourtX

In the glorious sunshine, the day started at 10.15 am with a warm-up followed by a player briefing with the matches starting at 11 am on the fantastic grass courts.  The players and the teams were:-

18U Boys:            Thomas Allen-Green, Sam Cawood, Alfie Hand, Cameron Jeffries Keel, Toby Trotman, Jack Wicken

15U Boys:            Evan Addy, Tom Casella, Oliver Casselton, Haohan Lu, Jasper Yu

12U Boys:            Shrihan Chakraborty, Matthew Gannon, Zack Hand, Archie Rossiter

Well done to all the players and a big thank you to Team Captains – Chris Wilkinson, Mike Booth and David Gaterell.  Dorset won the Boys Cups for the first time and H&IOW came 2nd in the 18U, 2nd in the 15U and 3rd in the 12U.

Girls – 30th June at CourtX

In slightly cooler and cloudy conditions, the girls also played on the grass courts at CourtX.  The day started a warm-up once the light drizzle had stopped followed by a player briefing with matches starting at approximately 11 am.  The teams were:-

18U Girls:             Lana Benson, Rose Gorman

16U Girls:             Jasmine Paul, Leena Sunil

12U Girls:             Lena Kudla, Tobechi Nwawudu

As we were low on numbers, we combined our 18U and 16U girls teams so the 16U event was only between Dorset and Sussex.  For the 12U Girls, Dorset also only had two players so we combined to compete against the Sussex team.

Well done to all the players and a big thank you to the Team Captains – Debbie Hale and Roisin Mullins.  As Sussex were the only county to field full teams, they kept the Girls Cup.

Both events were a great fun experience for all and Chris Wilkinson said:

‘This is an informal event and a great chance to give players an opportunity to represent their County.  It was great seeing the players play on grass and develop some different skills.   All matches were played in a good spirit with all teams having fun.   We look forward to next year’s fixture and hopefully we can bring the trophies back to Hampshire & IOW’.
