3 Counties Challenge – 2023

Date

The 3 Counties Challenge event was introduced in 2022 with H&IOW competing with Dorset and Sussex. The format is timed tennis for singles and doubles.

This year’s events were held on:

Boys – 25th June at CourtX

In the glorious sunshine, the day started at 10.30 am with a warm-up followed by a player briefing with the matches starting at 11 am on the fantastic grass courts.  It was a great fun experience for all the players and the teams were:-

18U Boys:            Thomas Allen-Green, Tuna Lakman, Edward Sanders, Toby Trotman, Dan Micklefield

16U Boys:            William Addleton, Ben Coxon, Jesse Frank Abu, Cameron Jeffries Keel, Jack Wicken, Scott Yates

12U Boys:            Tom Casella, Oliver Cassleton, Zack Hand, Filip Kaminski, Theodore Mullett, Archie Rossiter

The matches were closely contested and going into the doubles, Sussex and H&IOW were tied in first place so all to play for!  At the end of the doubles, there was just three points in it and Sussex just pipped H&IOW for the trophy.

Well done to all the players and a big thank you to Team Captains – Chris Wilkinson, Mike Booth and David Gaterell.

Girls – 2nd July at Southampton Outdoor Sports Centre

In slightly cooler and cloudy conditions, the girls had a coaching session from 8.30 am as the Sussex players had gone to the wrong venue!  Once all the players had arrived play started at approx. 11 am.  The teams were:-

18U Girls:             Lily Bebbington, Lana Benson, Eva Lakey, Mia Prosser

16U Girls:             Emma Bebbington, Mika Lakey, Amaris Stanford, Fenella Stephenson

11U Girls:             Maya Ballinger, Lena Kudla, Tobechi Nwawudu, Shauna Rana, Jasmine Paul

Unfortunately, Fenella got injured so Jasmine Paul played up into the 16U Girls team.  The matches between Dorset & H&IOW were close but the Sussex girls were too strong and they also won the trophy.

Well done to all the players and a big thank you to Team Captain – Fiona Nicholson, Lisa Hanley, Jack Ison, Lottie Howard and Sarah Rutherford
