We were very lucky to be at pretty much full strength and the team in ranking order was as follows.

Day 1 vs Sussex

Our first match was against local rivals Sussex which went perfectly to plan and we won 9-0.  Normally a close match between the two Counties but they were down a couple of players which made all the difference.  The singles order was our 1-6 on the ranking table, but for the doubles we brought Sami in to play with Owen in the third pair.

Day 2 – East of Scotland

Not wishing to change a winning side the singles order stayed the same and this time we raced to a 5-1 lead with our only loss coming to Owen in a very close match, we rung the changes in the doubles with Owen playing with Arthur in the first pair and Hayden played with Sami in the thirds while George and Luke stayed at 2, we won at 1 and 2 and lost narrowly at 3 to give us a 7-2  win overall.

Day 3 – Cambridgeshire

For our 3rd match, we had to play a strong unbeaten Cambridgeshire team, the singles stayed the same as the previous 2 days, we got off to a bad start with Owen picking up an elbow injury very early on in his match and having to retire, this seemed to unsettle us and we lost all four of our opening singles matches.  Arthur and Jack managed to pick up wins but going into the doubles needing to win all three matches and missing Owen was a big ask.  Paul Scullard and myself shuffled the pack best we could to try to achieve this, we came very close, but in the end went down 6-3.

We had a great weekend’s tennis, good standard and great team spirit.  I’d like to thank all the players for good levels of play and behaviour and my vice-captain “Scully” for all his input and hard work over the weekend.

A special mention should go to Jack, Luke and Owen who now move out of the junior team and I wish them well for the future.
